On the occasion of World Awareness Autism Day on April 2, the scientific journal Advances in Research publishes a clinical trial of Dr. Karnezi regarding the innovative intervention model on the Cognitive Behavior Drama (CBD) for high-functioning children with autism.

The innovative model was applied in Australia where the Greek Dr. Haris Karnezi trained experts to apply it to children. Her study at the international scientific journal “Advanced in Research” was posted by the publisher Science Domain International. As highlighted in the study, CBD is a psycho-pedagogical intervention model, based on a scientific study which was realized at the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and combines the art of theatre with the principles and techniques of psychological therapies that have proven effective for children on the autism spectrum. It was later applied in Australia.

The aim of the CBD is to give through imaginary interactive stories, an incentive for participants to understand the rules of social interaction and overcome problems often associated with autism such as phobias, anxieties, obsessions, impulsive behavior, poor eye contact, stereotypes, resistance to change and reduced confidence.

This new publication describes the process of eliminating a long-term phobia of an eleven year-old boy with Asperger syndrome triggered by poking, which because of the child’s difficulty to understand the intentions of others, always perceived it as harassment thus triggering outbursts, making him a target and excluding him from activities he loved, such as the school break.
