If the Liberal Party of South Australia wins the state elections which will be held on Saturday, March 15, it will allocate a one-million-dollar grant to several multicultural communities of South Australia to support them and promote their causes. One of the causes funded will be the promotion of the Greek language.
The announcement was made by the shadow Minister of Education and Multicultural Affairs, David Pisoni, during his speech at the opening of the Cyprus Community Cultural Center on March 2.
Mr. Pisoni, speaking on behalf of the Leader of the Opposition, Steven Marshall, announced that, if elected, the Liberal Government will offer a three-year grant assistance for the promotion of Greek language and culture. “Steven Marshall has asked me to announce tonight that a Liberal Government will maintain current funding of $150,000 per year to the LOGOS Australian Center for Hellenic Language and Culture for the next 3 years. We will also allocate an extra $600,000 over the next three years. This will enable the LOGOS center to carry out its broader plans for Modern Greek teaching in schools in South Australia,” the Liberal representative said.
The LOGOS Australian Centre for Hellenic Language and Culture of Flinders University is a new center for the training and promotion of Greek language teaching. The purpose of the center is to preserve and promote the Greek language and culture in Australia by strengthening connections between people in Australia and Greece.
