The two areas were given their names at the beginning of the last century by a British woman who loved Greece and spoke Ancient Greek. When she visited the beautiful areas, she was so impressed that she decided to give Greek names to the two locations, which are currently known as the outer suburbs of the city.

However these are not the only areas in Australia that have Greek names. The tallest mountains in Tasmania are named after the Greek names Ossa, Olympus, Kissavos, Parnassos etc. They were named by a British traveler who was a lover of Ancient Greece, upon his visit to the island two centuries ago.

In Victoria, there is a village named after the Greek island of Lemnos. The name was given by Australian soldiers who had served in Lemnos, Greece, during the First World War. There is also a waterfall called Diamantina that derived its name from Diamantina Roma who arrived in Australia in the 19th century as the wife of the British governor of Queensland. A city called Roma can also be found in the same state.

Finally, in the Gold Coast in the state of Queensland — the most cosmopolitan and touristic area of Australia — hotels are named after popular islands in Greece, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Paros etc.
