Roger Federer has stayed on course to defend his title at the Hopman Cup after a hard-fought 7-6 7-6 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas lasting one hour and 33 minutes. The win took the Swiss team over that of Greece before the remaining two matches.
It was one of the closest matches of the tournament so far. The young Greek man fought masterfully against the 20-time Grand Slam champion, forcing Federer to battle much harder than he did against Cameron Norrie and Frances Tiafoe in the opening two matches.
Both players delivered great numbers behind their first serve, but Federer made a big difference with his second serve, keeping it secure to stay away from break points. He never lost his serve in the opening three matches this week in Perth.
